I’ve been a vegan (and previously vegetarian) for quite a while now, which means I’ve been using natural personal care products for a while. For most products it was easy to make the switch to something natural and cruelty free – there’s an amazing variety of lotions, soaps and beauty products out there. Mascara was more difficult as most contain beeswax as a staying agent although I have found several brands that work for me.
By far the most challenging product, however, has been deodorant.
It’s not for lack of products either – if you go browse a natural health store, Etsy, or even Amazon, you’ll find an abundance of products available for purchase. The hard part is finding one that actually works – which I hadn’t in all the years I’ve been searching.
Seriously, I’ve tried them all. I’ve tried national selling brands, small businesses, etsy. I’ve tried crystal bars, spray on deodorant, deodorant in jars, deodorant in tubes, essential oils. I’ve read reviews, asked for guidance on Facebook groups and picked at random. Basically, you name it, and I’ve probably tried it. Nothing seemed to work for longer than an hour – and I’m not a particularly smelly person. And when I finally did find a natural product that was working for me, I started getting rashes everytime I would use it and 6 months into use. Turns out I developed a sensitivity to baking soda.
So when I got the chance to try Tom’s of Maine deodorant, I was excited. We already use a ton of their other products, why hadn’t I tried the deodorant?
Not only is Tom’s of Maine completely cruelty free (no animal testing or ingredients), and the packaging is 100% recylable through your local recylcing plant where available, or though TerraCycle Tom’s of Maine Natural Care Brigade. They are also free from aluminum, artificial fragrances, preservatives and petrochemicals – so you can be sure that you are getting a product that is completely safe and healthy for you and your family. This is extra important to me since I’m currently pregnant with baby #2. Whatever goes on my body, inevitably goes in it and into my baby. Not a problem with Tom’s of Maine. And with clincally proven 24 hour odor protection, you can be sure it actually works!
Curious why other’s are switching? Bev made the switch during pregnancy!
Tom’s of Maine really delivers on that promise of 24 hour odor protection. I applied once in the morning and that was it. I went about my daily activities and didn’t need to reapply. It survived an 8 hour work day, wrangling a toddler, yoga and even a roadtrip to southern California where I spent 9 hours completing a fitness training!
The fragrance of the deodorant isn’t overpowering during application and is light and airy smelling. My favorite was their lavender scented one – though apricot is a close second! Not all scents are floral though, my husband is a fan of the tea tree scented deodorant. So there’s a scent for everyone (including an unscented one).
So after using Tom’s of Maine for a while, I can finally say I’m permanently switching to Tom’s of Maine. Yay!

I would prefer either unscented or lavender.
I’d love the Fresh Apricot! Lavender sounds great, too.
Unscented is the one I want to try.
