Bathtime can be a great way to relax and pamper yourself… and its also great for our kids as well. What better way to wind down after a long hard day of playing and making messes than a bath? We take the occasional bubble bath since my toddler loves the bubbles but soap can dry out the skin. The majority of the time we use only water or this recipe for soothing baby bath herbs. We make up a bunch of little baby bath herbs satchels in advance so we can just toss one in the bath at the end of a long day.

This recipe is great for soothing irritated skin, be it from diaper rash, excema or dermatitus .And as a bonus, these herbs often have a calming effect, great before bedtime. (You’re welcome. ;-))
Soothing Baby Bath Herbs
Ingredients
- Dried Lavender
- Dried Chamomile
- Dried Rose
- Oats
- Muslin Bags – Optional, though recommended
Directions
Mix 2 parts oats to 1 part lavender, 1 part chamomile and 1 part rose petal. Fill muslin bag and tie.
To Use
Toss in a baggie to a warm bath and allow to soak. Water may become cloudy due to oats and is safe.
Bath herb mixture can be added straight to the bath if desired, but clean up is easier if they are contained to a bag. Discard or compost after use.
Do not use if child is allergic to herbs. Children allergic to ragweed may also be allergic to other herbs. Discontinue use if irritation occurs. Consult a doctor if rash does not clear up in a few days.
Other Child Safe Herbs To Consider
The recipe above is my favorite, although there are many more herbs that you can use in during bathtime. Here are a few more herbs generally recognized as safe for children:
Once warmed, these baby bath herbs can also be applied directly to the skin as a warm soothing compress.
Baby bath herbs are a great way to soothe irritated skin and help wind down after a long day. Make a bunch ahead of time to make an herbal bath quick and easy – simply toss one in and go. And if you ever happen to get a chance for a bath yourself, make sure to try one. They smell amazing and you deserve it. 🙂
