It’s the last place we dance at night, the only place we dream real dreams and the first thing we see when we open our eyes on a bright new day. It’s our bedroom. It’s ours. Whether you own a house, share a flat, rent a room, whatever; our bedrooms are ours. They are our little escape from the rest of the world. Our place to recharge and take charge. And so our bedrooms deserve an upgrade every so often, just something little, as long as it is something. And here are some ideas to help.
Positioning
Repositioning your bedroom is so much fun, and so inexpensive. Actually, it’s free. It’s free fun. Seeing what works and what doesn’t, playing around with what you already have, getting creative and innovative. Maybe you’ll find a better peace of mind, or zen, or feng shui, or maybe you’ll come across a layout that gives you more floor space or a better night sleep. Whatever it is, it could be gold.
Art
Nothing feeds the soul like art. But there is so much out there, it’s hard to choose. Whether your budget is $10 or $1000, there is so much incredible art to choose from. As a general rule of thumb, only buy something that you will be able to wake up and look at and never get bored. Something you will be able to walk past everyday and still love. It doesn’t have to be art that you buy. Have a go yourself, or stick some frames up on the wall and put random things in them like photos or a crown or some pressed flowers or a toy car. Anything. Oh, then have fun arranging them.
Furniture
Why not treat yourself to something new for once. Maybe you want a desk in your room so you can write poetry and short stories. Maybe it’s an easel you’re after, desperate to start doing that art for your walls you keep thinking about. Maybe it’s a couple of mismatched bedside tables, somewhere for you to finally put an alarm clock so that you aren’t late for work any more. How many warnings can your boss possibly give you.
Curtains
New curtains equals new room, or at least that is the vibe it will give off. Curtains can change the way a place feels. Wo why not upgrade, or go to a charity shop and see what you can find, or make some yourself using cheap fabrics from Ikea. Try something new. Go for long draped curtains that drag along the floor, something like deep and dark blue, but with a flowery lining that completely contrasts with everything else. Just have fun. There are Youtube tutorials on everything, so spare yourself five minutes and learn a skill; the skill of making your own incredibly gorgeous curtains (ones that actually block out the sun and allow you to have a lie in). They don’t even have to go across your window. They could make a corner changing room, or cover a wall to make your room feel bigger and more important than it actually is.
