I wasn’t blessed with flawless skin (oh how I wish), stretchmarks being no exception. When I was going through a depression during my late teenage years, I probably put on a good 50 pounds in a few months… and my skin showed it. Bright red tiger stripes up and down my stomach. Over a decade later, the redness has all faded and the stretchmarks I’ve been left with are hardly noticeable.

Knowing I have a predisposition to stretchmarks, I thought for sure I would earn bright red tiger stripes during my pregnancy with my first child. So I started a tummy massage regimen during my first trimester. Every night before bed I would slather on whatever lotion, oil, etc I could find and massage my skin gently. I didn’t know if it would have any effect on my skin, but lo and behold, I got through my entire first pregnancy without a single stretchmark! (Plus a tummy massage before bed is way relaxing!).

Which is why I’m starting up my nightly tummy massages again. This time with Herb Farm’s Mother to Be Body Oil.

Herb Farm’s body oil is a 100% natural body oil designed to nourish and soften skin and help prevent the appearance of stretchmarks. Made with ingredients such as almond and avocado oils, and lavender and tangerine essential oils, it contains just the right ingredients to keep skin soft and supple.

I adore this body oil. The ingredients are natural and safe for both mother and baby. Plus the mix of essential oils create a pleasing and relaxing smell. I find the smell of lavender and rose to be relaxing so putting this on right before bedtime create a relaxing atmosphere for me (and my cosleeping toddler!).

At nearly 12 weeks pregnant (and no weight gain), I haven’t quite entered into stretchmark territory yet, but I’m hoping that by starting early, I’ll once again by able to avoid them.

I simply pump 2-3 times to ensure I have enough to cover my tummy and hips, and gently massage in. My skin readily absorbs the oil. Although I can’t speak about stretchmark prevention quite yet (I’ll update when I can), already my skin feels softer.

And even if I end up getting some, no big deal. Tummy massages with this soothing body oil still feels nice.
