Kitchens often go criminally unappreciated. But if you’re anything like me, you probably spend as much time in that part of the home than any other – excluding the bed. So it’s about time you put an end to the blandness, and start cooking up a fuss.
Revamping the kitchen space needn’t be as hard as you might first fear. Here are four simple yet effective ways to complete that makeover quickly and, more importantly, without breaking the bank.
What are you waiting for? Your fresh new kitchen awaits.
Focus On Visible Elements
Your kitchen is home to many different appliances, as well as cupboards and storage space. Gutting and replacing all of those items would cost a small fortune, not to mention the time involved. Quite frankly, you’d be better off concentrating on the visible elements, especially if it’s only cosmetic change that’s required.
Replacing the cupboard doors is a far cheaper and easier option. Furthermore, new kitchen sinks can enliven the room’s look while enhancing the practical factors too. Apart from anything else, it offers a fresh and clean start for you to take better care.
There’s no need to replace the plumbing or the storage space for the sake of it. It’s not like you’ll notice it.
Inject New Energy
Is there anything more boring than doing the dishes while surrounded by a wall of plain brown and white? As already mentioned, your kitchen is one of the most active spaces in the entire home. Stamping your personality on the room is essential, particularly as it’s so easy.
The options are plentiful. I personally love the idea of incorporating tropical prints and natural tones. Feature walls and tiling can be used to embrace that fresh and natural atmosphere. Couple this with growing herbs on the window ledge, and the space will be bursting with character.
Utilise Accessories
Often in life, it’s the little things that make the biggest difference. This is especially true when it comes to the kitchen. Accentuating the room in style is crucial to the overall appearance. You don’t necessarily need everything to match perfectly, but it should all fit the colour scheme and theme of the area.
From kettles to bread bins every item plays an important role. Meanwhile, instant coffee makers and other modern gadgets all add to the vibe too – unless you store them away when not in use. Countertops can also be brought to life with decorative chopping boards. Finally, the right choice of tea towels and oven gloves will offer the perfect finishing touches.
Embrace The Space
Kitchens can vary massively in size. As such, I can’t tell you whether to have a breakfast bar or a dining table etc. What I do know, however, is that you need to work with its potential.
Avoiding clutter is important, especially as the kitchen can be a dangerous arena. Moreover, you need to encourage natural light to create that happy glow. Depending on the layout of your home, that could even include knocking down an internal wall to go open plan with the dining space.
Whatever you do, though, make sure it’s clean. Use biodegradable cleaners for a fresh and natural environment, and don’t forget the big jobs like the oven. Failure to do this won’t only ruin the appearance, it could result in faults too. In the long-term, that could cost you a fortune.
