Grocery shopping is stressful. Between creating a budget my family can stick to, choosing healthy options, and navigating through crowded stores, it’s enough to pull my hair out. Adding veganism and a preference for organic products makes it even harder.
Since moving into a bigger (and more expensive) house in August, budgeting has become even more important to us; my current grocery goal is $100 per week for 3 people (including a toddler). When I first came up with my goal I was concerned I would be sacrificing the quality of our food. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that that was definitely not the case – especially with breakfast.
Annie’s Homegrown creates a variety of food products with the goal of creating delicious and nutritious food while remaining a socially conscious company. Annie’s products have had a place in our home for a while, yet strangely I had never picked up any of their breakfast products. So recently, I picked up some boxes of Annie’s certified organic cereal to add to our breakfast rotation.
Normally, I’m hesitant of cereal since it’s often loaded with preservatives, GMO ingredients and who knows what else, but with Annie’s certified organic Berry Bunnies and Cocoa Bunnies, I don’t have to worry about any of that. Plus, it’s a great food budget wise since you get so many servings in a single box – it comes out to somewhere around 50 cents per serving, which fits great in our new budget.
We’ll often snack on these as well. My toddler loves some of the popular baby puffs, however they aren’t cheap and a tube doesn’t last very long (Okay, I confess I snack on them too). Cocoa and berry bunnies are a great replacement for puffs. They are the perfect size to work on his fine motor skills and the little bunny shapes are super cute! They’re quite tasty. The cocoa bunnies really hit the chocolate craving spot on this pregnant mama! Plus Annie’s Certified Organic Cocoa Bunnies Cereal is made with Fair Trade cocoa, which helps provide sustainable incomes for farmers and their families.
It feels great knowing I don’t have to sacrifice taste or our family’s health to eat organic on a budget.
